Ok, today I undertook in the one thing that almost every geek fears, loathes and despises. Contact Sport. It was the first excercise that I had undertaken in almost a year, and rugby was not the best way of reintegrating myself into excercise.
It didn’t help that my flatmates are all quite sporty, so there was no mercy. FULL contact. Now, before last year, I almost hid my geekiness, and tried to cover it up by playing a few sports. Over the past few months I have become totally comfortable with my inner geek. This however is a pain in the arse, as you get used to avoiding conflict. Then when 2 giants and a rugby player come running at you, you are going to spend the rest of your day in pain and whining about your bad back. So here I am, with a towel at the bottom of the uncomfortable, standard halls of residence chair counting down the time until I can lay on my standard halls of residence matress. Mmm, cheap matresses a perfect night sleep.
So then, I guess that the geek stereotype has to be upheld by some people or it would crumble. As I sit here thinking about how much pain I am in, I am glad to say I am a proud member of the geek community. Keeping stereotypes alive.
